Affirmed Dros Rapist Declared Sane And Fit To Stand Trial

The 22-year-old man blamed for assaulting a seven-year-old young lady in the restroom of a Dros restaurant in Pretoria has been discovered fit to stand trial. 

This was uncovered in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Friday, after the blamed went through a month in Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, experiencing broad assessment. 

The State said they acquired a mental report just as a mental report by 3 psychiatric and a therapist and that the accused can stand trial. 

The accused, who can't be named until he has argued the charges, was assessed by a group of four specialists, including therapists and a clinical analyst, according to a court request made in 2018. 

The perception occurred at a government mental institution.

The assessment decided the psychological limit of the charged and whether he can be considered responsible. 

Amid a past court appearance the charged's legal advisor, Riaan du Plessis, told the court that there was a need to investigate the psychological condition of his client at the period of the supposed event. 

He included that the charged had been determined to have bipolar turmoil in 2013, and had been utilizing drugs since he was 14 years of age. 

It was put on record that the accused had recently experienced restoration for substance misuse.

"He also tried to commit suicide because of the severe depression of having bipolar," said Du Plessis.

State advocate Sanet Jacobson told the court that it was in light of a legitimate concern for equity for the accused to be alluded to Weskoppies for mental evaluation.

"[His] criminal capacity might be a relevant issue to pursue because a substance was found on him," Jacobson argued.

The issue has been delayed to 5 March for prosecution.
